New engine for the Ford Kuga

Paris will launch Ford's 2.5 litre, 5 cylinder, 200bhp turbo-charged petrol engine in the Kuga SUV. The Kuga is currently available with a 136bhp, 2.0-litre TDCi diesel unit which was launched in May 2008. The engine is currently found in the Focus ST, Mondeo and S-Max models. Ford recalibrated the 2.5 litre unit for the Kuga as it now develops a maximum output of 200bhp (versus the Focus STs 225HP) at 6,000 rpm and a linear torque peak of 320 Nm available from 1,600 up to 4,000.

Gunnar Herrmann, C-Car Vehicle Line Director of Ford of Europe said, We always intended the new Kuga to be the most dynamic crossover vehicle in its class. The new 2.5 litre Duratec Turbo petrol powertrain offers extra performance and is a perfect match for the vehicle. The added power and refinement adds a lot of fun when driving Kuga both on- and off-road.

The Kuga 2.5 Turbo comes with a Haldex Gen 4 Intelligent AWD system and a manual 6 speed transmission as standard, but buyers can opt for Durashift 5-tronic automatic transmission. With the manual gearbox the Kuga 2.5T can reach a top speed of 130mph while achieving a combined fuel economy of 28.5mpg with a CO2 output of 234g/km. As for the automatic version, it has a top speed of 126mph with the combined fuel economy of 27.3mpg with a CO2 output of 244 g/km. Ford is also offering more options with the Kuga; the new Ford Individual bespoke-finish menu will be available, including choices such as nappa leather, piano white trim details and contrasting textures, chrome exterior styling details, body kit with longer rear spoiler and side skirts, lower bumpers, 20" alloys and Ice White paint.
