Struggling to find new ways to add weight to its product line, BMW has released an armored version of the 5-series. The 5-Series Security adds only 551 LB to a regular 550i or 530i, while making the most of high-tech materials to ensure complete safety for its occupants. Like the BMW X5 Security, this vehicle can withstand projectiles up to a .44 Magnum. With the extensive use of Kevlar mats in the doors, roof and floor, steel plates in particularly vulnerable areas and 22mm glass-and-plastic security windows, BMW claims the Security models leave no gap for a projectile, shrapnel or shattered glass to penetrate into the passenger cabin.
