Full DP1 external aerodynamics simulation using CFdesign. Airstream of 100 MPH with a moving floor. Note how the uniform incoming flow waves are indistinguishable downstream. A low-pressure, turbulent wake region is clearly visible behind the car. The air passing over, under and around the car separates from the car surfaces in this region and tries to fill the void as quickly as possible. The result is a suction zone of tumbling, random flow that constitutes a considerable amount of overall vehicle drag.
