GM announced this morning that a production example of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 piloted by development engineer Jim Mero set a lap time of 7:26.4 around the famed Nurburgring circuit. The run took place this morning in good conditions with a strong headwind on the straight. The car was apparently stock with the exception of some safety and communications equipment. The lap was filmed and the time was confirmed by an electronic timing system and 2 stopwatches.
That would put the ZR1 at the top of the food chain for lap times of production cars, topping the Pagani Zonda F's 7:27.82. The Nissan GTR falls to third with an official 7:29.03.
Currently testing on the Ring are the Nissan GTR V-Spec which has unofficially been clocked at around 7:25 and the Lexus LF-A which was unofficially timed at around 7:24. There is also the Acura NSX replacement testing there with a casual lap time of 7:38.
