Mussolini's 1935 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Pescara Spyder set to fetch up to 800,000

Benito Mussolini may not be one of Europes most respected leaders of the 20th century, but at least he had good taste in cars? In 1935 Alfa Romeo built a custom 6C 2300 Pescara Spyder for the dictator and the car will be offered for auction.

Mussolini had tuners upgrade the performance of the car, raising the engines output from 68bhp to 95bhp. A total of 60 Alfa Romero 6C 2300 Pescara were made and this is the only known surviving Spyder. The rare roadster was also used by Mussolinis chauffer in the 1936 Mille Miglia race, who came in 13th place. More recently the car won the New York City Concours in 2005.

The auction will be held in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire today and the Alfa is expected to fetch up to 800,000? Experts expect a strong international interest due to rarity and the historical significance that surrounds the car.
