"What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots."Hmm, I seem to think I've seen the robot somewhere before...
Number 5 from Short Circuit! I loved that film.
Anyway, I've watched it 3 times now and I think I wouldn't mind watching it once more. Pixar has churned out yet another masterpiece. This enthralling animated film has such minimal dialog, it brings back the 'Charlie Chaplin's best silents' days, letting action speak louder than words. Being an animator myself, this is the kind of stuff that inspires me to be one. The animation is simply stunning with such attention to detail (typical Pixar...). Watching the movie the second and third time, gave me the opportunity to appreciate all the other secondary and background animations you never notice the first time. Pixar has never failed to inpress, pioneers at what they do best.
The way Pixar has been able to endow these mechanical characters with such human characteristics is unbelievably well done. You'd have to be a machine yourself for your heart not to melt.
In my opinion, this film has stretched the expectations and reaches of animation. A jewel of a film in conception, execution and message.
Go watch it.
