ARCHIVE:Major order from Bielefeld for 104 rural-service buses

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

BVO Bielefeld places order for the Mercedes-Benz Integro which meets the Euro 5 emission standard
Low operating costs, long maintenance intervals

Stuttgart/Bielefeld, Germany, Aug 15, 2008 Mercedes-Benz Buses has received a large order for 104 rural-service buses from BVO Bielefeld (Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH). The Mercedes-Benz Integro models will be delivered from late summer through to the end of the first quarter in 2009. A horizontally mounted OM 457hLA straight six-cylinder engine delivering 220 kW (299 hp) will power the buses ordered. All the buses also feature BlueTec5 diesel technology which already fulfils the emission regulations that take effect in September 2009.

These vehicles will be used over the next six years to take the children of British soldiers to school, for example, as well as to transport British soldiers around many locations in the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony. The order also includes 24 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses and additional used Integros. BVO Bielefeld is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German national railway company Deutsche Bahn AG.

Low operating costs, long maintenance intervals

Favourable operating costs, a long service life and durable vehicle components, plus high quality standards and flexible deployment options make the Mercedes-Benz Integro an attractive, economical solution for bus operators. Weight has been optimised in various ways such as by using new and computer-optimised materials from touring coaches. For example, the enhanced roof frame and the lighter air conditioning system mean that the three variants of the new Mercedes-Benz Integro weigh some 200 kg less than preceding models. Thanks to the reduced unladen weight, the payload is higher while at the same time lowering fuel consumption for an identical load. Coupled with long maintenance intervals of up to 60,000 km (engine oil change), this means that operating costs are kept permanently low.
