Chevrolet engineers have taken the new Beat to the Austrian Alps, UK roads and to the Spanish mountains. This time round, the heavy rear disguise has been ditched on certain mules. Measuring at 3.8 metres/3800 mm, the new Beat rivals other small city cars like the Hyundai i10, Suzuki Splash, Toyota Aygo and Mitsubishi i.
Chevrolet is considering to import the new Beat into the U.S where economical cars are in high demand but if the Beat wants a U.S entry, it has to conform with crash regulations which is both costly and time-consuming for GM. A 1.2 litre S-TEC II 16-valve petrol turbo engine will be linked to a manual transmission with an optional auto-gearbox.
Europe should see the newcomer in mid-2009/early 2010.
