F1 Silverstone - FRI & SAT - Free Practice + Qualifying
There were 2 very fruitful days for McLaren at Silverstone. Almost everything went smooth and as previously planned. In the first day, in the 2 free practice sessions, McLaren F1 drivers were on top:in Session 1, Heikki was second, and Lewis third, whereas in Session 2, the Finnish driver climbed to the 1st position, while Lewis retained the place achieved in the other session. Day 2 at Silverstone was a very exciting;although the Practice session didn't announce the big surprise of the day. Lewis managed only the 5th position, while Heikki came home on 3rd. The Qualifying rounds were sweet for McLaren;both drivers succeded in giving the most out of them. Only a faulty handling manouevre at a turn on the circuit kept the British driver Lewis Hamilton from achieveing the pole for the Sunday race at Silverstone;in the end, the odds were a bit against him on his native territory, managing only a mere 4th position on the grid. The one who saved the situation was Heikki Kovalainen, who scored his maiden pole of its Formula 1 career. On second came Mark Webber, and on third, the champion en titre, Kimi Raikkonen.
