Vintage Racing Automobilia

When my son Laurent and I were at the 2007 Mosport Vintage Racing Festival, we met a lot of great people. One of these was Peter Felder from Ontario. And since we�ve met, we have become good friends.

Peter used to be part of some major racing teams from the 60�s through to the 80�s, and along the way, accumulated a lot of �stuff�.

A few months ago, Peter was clearing out his attic, and asked me if I was interested in having some of this �stuff�. Of course, vintage racing addict that I am, I said yes.

Just before Christmas, a large box arrived, and when I opened it, I was completely shocked. Peter had generously filled it to the brim with amazing items: photos, stickers, tags, patches, posters, some of which were autographed, race programs, corporate brochures, and press kits, all covering Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 5000, Can Am, Trans Am and Sports GT racing, from Watkins Glen to Hockenheim.

Over the next few months, I will be posting some of these items, and adding them to my vintage racing automobilia collection site.

Talbot-Lago T26C: La gloire de la France

One of my all-time favorite Grand Prix race cars has to be the Talbot-Lago T26C. It is such a beautiful piece of machinery, usually painted in it�s International Racing Colour French blue.

It was developed under the guidance of Anthony F. Lago, who had taken over the ailing SA Automobiles Talbot in 1935.

His company developed a straight-six competition 4.5 litre engine, mated to a Wilson pre-selector gearbox, and wrapped in a tradition yet gorgeous body.

Though not the most powerful racer on the grid, it was fuel-efficient, reliable and easy to pilot. These strengths became very apparent in races, and the T26C found some success in the hands of drivers like Louis Rosier, Louis Chiron, Philippe �tancelin, Guy Mairesse, Raymond Sommer and Pierre Levegh.

I was lucky enough to see, and sit in, the Talbot-Lago T26C of Aldo and Denis Bigioni at the Mosport Vintage Racing Festival in 2007.

It is a stunning example, this one sporting an egg-crate grill � perfect!

Tragedy at Mosport

Tragedy struck at the 2008 Mosport Vintage Racing Festival when the 1977 Ex Gilles Villeneuve Wolf Dallara CanAm car of Dino Crescentini crashed at high speed. Organizers canceled the rest of the day�s races out of respect to Mr Crescentini and his family.

We saw Mr Crescentini racing at last year's Festival; here is a small video clip shot by my son of the racer in action:



Our hearts go out the Mr Crescentini's family and his fellow racing fraternity.

Mosport Vintage Racing Festival � June 20-22

A year ago this coming weekend, my son Laurent and I spent the weekend at the Mosport Vintage Racing Festival, celebrating 40 Years of Formula 1 as Mosport. This year, they celebrate 40 years of Can-Am at Mosport, with the featured mark being Lola, who are celebrating their 50th year.

Our dear friend Gary Grant, creator and scribe extraordinaire of The Garage Blog made our visit there as smooth as it could be for us Maritimers.

The noticeble lack of spectators for such an amazing racer-attended event hurt our Car Evolution sales, but that was made up by the amazing people I got to meet and can now proudly call my friends.

Though I couldn't really attend the races, having to stay at the booth, my son Laurent wandered high and low, taking stunning pics. I'm attaching some of his great work. Enjoy!


Dave Boon of Ottawa brought along his famous Hubley Bluenose Special; what a wonderful gentleman with a beautiful old racer.

1920's Hubley Bluenose Special

Dave Boon of Ottawa, Ontario owns and races a piece of history.

The 1920's Hubley Bluenose Special hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia and is named after it's creator.

It's safe to say that it is probably the oldest original functioning racer in Canada. I had the honour of developing the period-style graphics for the racer.

My son Laurent and I had the great pleasure of finally meeting Dave at the Mosport Vintage Racing Festival in June 2007.



Laurent filmed the Hubley Bluenose Special with it's vintage Chevy engine running; it carries some actual period Chevy performance parts ... amazing!

My trade show booth at Mosport

This is the 10'x 10' booth setup I had had the VARAC Vintage Racing Festival at Mosport, Ontario in June of 2007.

It was great to have giant 8'x 6' colour vinyl outputs of my illustrations, thanks to Mike Kelly of Precision Digital of Halifax (www.precisionatlantic.com). Amazing colour!
