Suzuki to manufacture cars in Brazil (BR)

Suzuki has announced at the 2010 So Paulo Motor Show that it plans to set-up a production line in Brazil.

The first car to be produced will be the Jimny sub-compact SUV, which is celebrating its 40th birthday in Japan. Suzuki of Brazil President, Luiz Rosenfeld didnt confirm any details, but 3,000 annual vehicles are targeted as of 2012.

The importer of Suzuki Brazil has an advanced factory 450 miles from So Paulo. Its unclear if the forthcoming Suzuki factory will be in the same location. Negotiations are under way.

The Suzuki import operation only just restarted after a long hiatus since its previous iteration, from 1992 to 2003. The current range in Brazil consists of the Jimny, SX4 and range-topping Grand Vitara.
