Up for grabs at eBay is an extremely rare 1964 Pontiac Banshee Firebird prototype car, which was created by John Z. Delorean, then General Manager of Pontiac. One of the only two surviving concept cars, the Pontiac XP-833 Banshee Coupe was commissioned by General Motors to compete with the Ford Mustang. The public debut of the XP-833 Banshee was cancelled just hours before the 1964 New York Auto Show for the reason that the Banshee Firebird wouldn�t threaten the sales of Corvette sports car. Anyway, in 1967, Pontiac did introduce the Firebird that shared both chassis and sheet metal with the Chevrolet Camaro. In 1973 John Delorean left General Motors and formed the DeLorean Motor Company to create his dream sports car, the DeLorean, which has been featured in the movie Back to the Future.
The Banshee never went into production, but the two drivable Banshee prototypes survived even after the project was canceled by GM. These concept cars were sold by GM to employees closely involved in the XP-833 project. The one-of-a-kind prototype coupe up on eBay was sold directly by GM to Bill Killen.

Concept cars rarely get sold by the manufacturers, especially a car with this kind of history. Whoever wins this auction is going to own a piece of our country�s automotive past that should really belong in an automobile museum.
Some of the salient features of the are XP-833 Banshee are the silver exterior with a red interior, long nose, short deck, swooping coke-bottle profile, broad grille with chrome bumper surround, raked windshield, bulging fenders, triple slit taillights and hidden headlights.
Other features include four-speed manual transmission, sport car dash, 120mph speedometer, 8,000 RPM tachometer, wood sport steering wheel, Pontiac radio and Rally II style wheels.
The current bid for the exceptionally rare 1964 Pontiac XP833 Banshee Concept Car Coupe currently sits at US $48,100.
