The first practice day on the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore didn't go as smooth as predicted and desired by the McLaren-Mercedes team, partially because the tarmac was still wet after the heavy rains that fell on Friday. In the first session, Lewis Hamilton was kept away from the track most of the time due to technical failures on his single-seater and, in the end, he was ranked 18th only. Jenson Button felt more comfortable with the car, as himself recognized, and managed to achieve the 6th position on the grid. In the second free practice round, both McLaren-Mercedes runners scored higher rankings in the final standings: Jenson on 3rd and Lewis on 5th, but still pretty much away from what they are accustomed with.
