Up for grabs at the Historics at Brooklands auction on Saturday September 25 is the Ghostbusters Cadillac, an amazing recreation of one of the most iconic movie cars of our time. The comedy movie Ghostbusters was released in June 1984 and made a box office return of $238.6 million. Chris Reynolds found the rusting 1959 Cadillac S&S ambulance in Maryland, USA in 1997 and spent 65,000 to turn it into an Ecto 1 look-alike. During the restoration, the entire roof of the 20-foot-long and 6.5-foot-wide car was replaced. Reynolds, a coachbuilder by profession, said
The cars ghostly presence is in stark contrast to the real life experience of bringing it back to life - and the cost of doing so! The car was about to be scrapped when I discovered it and the restoration has been a real labour of love, and hopefully it will find a worthy home.
The power comes from a 6.5-liter V8 engine, but the return is a disgusting 8mpg. Anyway, anyone buying this movie car wont be much bothered about those figures. From the outside, the Cadillac looks like the Ecto 1, but the interior seems to be of a limousine. This 1959 Cadillac Ambulance Ghostbusters is expected to sell for between 75,000 and 85,000.
