PREVIEW New Mercedes-Benz Models:BLK/GLA & CLR

In the forthcoming years, Mercedes-Benz will start launching a comprehensive lineup of new models, with the aim of attracting new, young customers towards the Three-Pointed Star brand.

The Stuttgart-based constructor will commence its offensive with an entirely revised and enriched small/compact car range. The A- and B- classes will spawn into many new models, apart from the 3door/5door and MPV architectures. Expect to see a 4door coupe, a cabriolet and even an SUV to compete with BMW's current X1 model or with Audi's upcoming Q3. Investigation also shed a light on a possible model to be developed on the powertrain of the future generation C-Klasse (W 205), to arrive in showrooms in 2014. The new niche version will probably be badged CLR and it will basically be a very sporty MPV, featuring a progressive and organic exterior design language and sporting an attractive engine offer and a very upscale and modular interior. Returning to the A-/B- lineups, one of the most awaited models will be a compact SUV, likely to be called BLK or GLA. The mini-GLK will embrace the upcoming Mercedes design philosophy that was previewed on the F 800 Style Research Vehicle at Geneva. Targeted towards young and active customers, the BLK/GLA will be offered in FWD configuration for the lower entry versions and in 4MATIC architecture for the high-end models. The on-road behaviour will be oriented towards the proverbial Mercedes-Benz comfort without sacrificing the compulsory dynamic, sports capabilities, that shall be enhanced in AWD mode and with the addition of new, powerful, but highly efficient engines.
