SPY - 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Klasse

A test prototype for the future generation of the iconic SL roadster of Mercedes-Benz has been recently spotted taking strolls on icy tarmac, somewhere in Northern Scandinavia.

The current SL-Klasse model, the R 230, that underwent an important facelift in 2008, is due for a generation shift in late 2012. The new roadster to replace it, dubbed R 231, will retain the slim and sexy silhouette, very well-known to customers. The styling will be a mix between several Mercedes models-you could see a bit of SLS AMG, 2011 CLS and 2012 SLK, all together in a single car. It also appears that the next SL could grow up a bit in length, thus delivering the impression of a wider and lower body profile. The interior is still a complete mystery;we can expect an evolution of the radical, boxy shapes we've seen in recent Mercedes-Benz models-rounder, appealing lines are far more suitable for such a 'glamour' model.

The R 231 will sport all the latest Mercedes-Benz technology, whether that means safety systems, in-car infotainment and, nonetheless, the upcoming 'MoVe'-powerful, yet very efficient engines. A hybrid unit might also find its way under the hood of the new SL-Klasse.
