New Car: 2009 Vauxhall/Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

This is the new Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer, the third variant to join the range after the hatch and sedan revealed at the British motor show last month.

This model is longer than the hatchback by 80mm, at 4910mm, but it retains the same 2737mm wheelbase.

Two new engine variants will debut in the Insignia wagon, alongside the five units from the hatchback and sedan models. There will be an uprated turbo-diesel that will offer more power than the standard Insignias 158bhp range-topping CDTi model, and a small-capacity turbocharged Ecoflex petrol unit.

Mark Adams, Vice-President of GM Europe Design, said, This is a stand-alone model and not simply an estate version of the saloon. All the bodywork aft of the B-pillars is unique to the Sports Tourer. As with the rest of the Vauxhall Insignia range, the Sports Tourer will be available with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, and the new FlexRide system will also be an option.

There will be no details until the Insignia Sports Tourer makes its debut at the Paris show in October. Expect it in dealerships in Spring 2009.
