The first of its kind in the Mercedes-Benz model lineup, the W 201 series was officially introduce in December 1982 and made sensation at that time, simply because it was not a successor of a previously-existing car generation. The W 201 spawned into many versions, such as the popular 190 and 190 E, or the sporty 2.5-16 variant;the car benefited from the so-called sealed engine solution, which in the end provided the 190 D with a special nickname - the whispering diesel.
