SPY - 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Klasse (R231) - New, clearer pics

As usual in such cases, the first set of spy pics with the future SL (R231) was closely followed by another one, of a better quality.

Last night, the first spy photos with a test prototype for the next generation SL surfaced on the internet. At that time, little was known about the new lightweight roadster.

Did I say "lightweight"?Yes, I did. The 2013 Sport Leicht will feature a brand new method of construction, based on the extensive use of lightweight materials for the fabrication of the chassis, such as the aluminium, that shall be molded into structures called spaceframes. This will most certainly bring a massive weight loss and will also improve the driving dynamics and the technical performance of the car.

The main components will be shared with other Mercedes-Benz models, such as the SLS AMG or the forthcoming SLK-Klasse (R172). The powerplant range will include new V6, V8 and V12 petrol units, that showcase turbocharging technology, direct injection and a greater efficiency in consumption levels and CO2 emissions.
