Hyundai has been presented at the Geneva Show i30 hatchback model series and the crossover concept QarmaQ. This concept it was published in the sketches and published a few weeks ago by Hyundai, bringing significant change of approach in what concerns the materials used in the composition.
While traditional cars using metal and glass, QarmaQ assembled from a plastic material made by GE Plastics. QarmaQ concept is the result of cooperation between the two companies and bring, as a novelty, only the vista of a kind view from the helicopter to provide, because the surface of plasticized window of the car body.
By integrating GE polycarbonate glazing and wrap-around GE Lexan window glass, car body weight is reduced by almost 50%. A unique technology features Lexan screen: Exatec Technology. sa technology through which a thin layer of protective glass is deposited on the screen, which helps when it protects from scratches or the effects of humidity. Material, much lighter than traditional glass used in automotive industry, also increase the impact resistance and good occupant and pedestrian safety. When talking about the safety of pedestrians, we can also mention a system that uses deformable bottom body panel concept, which can absorb energy to destroy in the case of a collision with a person that may occur.
GE Plastics' High Performance Elastomer (which is used for horizontal body panels) managed to also save weight. 900 recycled plastic bottles have been used when manufacturing other body panels.A new concept is a showcase of 30 new technologies that will be found in future Hyundai models. The car is the result of hard work from Hyundai Motor Europe's Design and Technical Center and has been engineered in cooperation with GE Plastics. It will be ready to roll in year 2008 to 2014.
