Boss beats M3 around Laguna Seca


One is a working class, best-selling American icon. The other is Bruce Springsteen. But only one of these can whup a BMW M3 around Laguna Seca. And it �ain�t Bruce�

Ford has pillaged its fertile back catalogue and resurrected the legendary Boss 302 badge for its �fastest ever� Mustang.


The original Boss 302 was built for Trans Am racing and featured a 4.9-litre V8 (302 cubic inches) and churned out around 350bhp.


So in commemorating this icon, Ford needed some serious firepower. Ergo, the new Mustang Boss 302 is fitted with a 5.0-litre V8 producing 434bhp and 380lb ft.


To make sure it doesn�t powerslide into the nearest tree/hedge/rock revival, the Boss 302 gets higher-rate coil springs, stiffer suspension bushings, and adjustable shocks and struts. And they really are adjustable, using nowt� but a screwdriver.


You will notice it also gets a slightly altered face, some 19-inchers and a few interior details � revised instrument cluster, optional Recaros and some new trim.


There�s even a track-special of the Boss, called the Boss 302 Laguna Seca, which strips the rear seats, adds race-ready suspension and features a firmer, stiffer chassis setup.


Ford�s mission statement for the original Boss 302 was to create the best all-round performance machine ever created by the company.


With the new one they got more specific � a race-car with a licence plate.
�For us that meant a production Mustang that could top one of the world�s best � the 2010 BMW M3 � in lap times at Laguna Seca�, says Ford.
