Toyota�s European sales were down 26% year-on-year in the first half of 2009, the company has announced.
�The automotive industry has faced extraordinary business conditions this year,� said Tadashi Arashima, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe (TME). �On the plus side, our sales in Western Europe have been bolstered by Government stimulus packages and our ability to adjust production volumes swiftly.�
TME produced 231,800 cars between January and June. Its most successful model was the Yaris with 109,403 examples were sold, 19% fewer than in the same period last year.
