DEI posts win at Dover, and it's not Junior's car

The win Saturday of Martin Truex Jr. at the Dover International Speedway was his first Cup victory, and likewise the first for the Dale Earnhardt Inc. team. DEI's last Cup win was at Richmond in May last year, courtesy of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Now that Junior, DEI owner Teresa's stepson, is set to leave the team after a contract dispute with the management, the team seems to have won more than a Cup.

Truex's victory proves DEI has the resources capable of competing with the best in the sport. At a time when the team is set to undergo a phase with the upcoming loss of Dale Jr., not a few people have had their doubts if DEI can race without Junior.

I never really felt like [I] and [crew chief] Tony Jr. had any trouble being competitive at DEI, Junior said in an interview Friday. The reasons why I left were truly personal and not competition related.
