Designer Exercise: Volkswagen T6 Mobile Office

Automobiles are often thought of as sanctuaries. A place where people can retreat, escape the rigors of life and take a moment to sort their thoughts while cruising along.


However, Alexander Zhukovski, a student designer from the Ural State Academy of Architecture and Arts in Ekatarinburg Russia thinks otherwise. Recognizing the busy rhythmic world of today, Zhukovsky has fused the two concepts of mobility and productivity in an extreme way to create this executive "office of the future". Paying homage to the VW Beetle and Transporter 1 bus for their iconic representation of the 50s-70s, Zhukovsky branded his roving office, T-6.


Giving new meaning to the expression "working on the road", the T-6 is constructed of two cylinders connected with a flexible middle section that acts as a hinge when making turns. The wheels are positioned onto the periphery of the body and revolve around the two cylinders. Both ends of the cylinders have vertically opening doors.

Spy Photos; Mercedes E-Class Coupe in Black Almost Free of Camo

German automakers are very reserved in their styling and prefer the concept of (very gradual) evolution rather than revolution in updating models. This shot reveals that philosophy in action. But the car does appear to have a greater curve along the horizontal length of the body and a more muscular hunch above the rear wheels.



Here's another series of spy shots on the coming E-Class. These are of the coupe version, which will be a very important model for Mercedes since they have discontinued the CLK badging and essentially turned the CLK into this E-Class Coupe.


The new E-Class sedan will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show next March. Other variants, including this coupe, will likely only be first unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show next September.


The E-Class Coupe will likely come with, amongst Mercedes standard lineup of engines, Mercedes' latest 204 hp turbodiesel Bluetec, an AMG version with the 550 hp V8, and may also include the BlueHybrid that Mercedes is developing.
